Safe Dating

Meeting people via the internet is one of the safest ways to meet. Personal details are kept private, and you can spend time getting to know each other before deciding to take the next step.

However, it can feel like you know each other really well, before having ever spoken or met face to face. No matter how many times you've emailed, it is different when you meet up for the first time.

You are responsible for your own safety, but the following safety measures are recommended to ensure that you stay safe, and enjoy your dates.

  • If you want to take things further and exchange personal email addresses, give out a personal email address rather than a work one.
  • Don't feel pressurized into meeting anyone, we'd recommend speaking on the telephone before meeting up. When you're ready to meet up, why not arrange to meet your date on a Date Outdoors event local to you?
  • If meeting on your own, choose a public place to meet where you feel comfortable.
  • Always meet your date at your meeting place, never arrange to travel together or let them arrange your travel arrangements for you.
  • Tell a trusted friend where you're going, when and who you're meeting. Arrange to have a check in time to ensure that you're OK.
  • Always have your mobile phone with you, switched on, charged up and with credit!
  • Follow your instincts. If you feel uncomfortable, make your excuses and leave.
  • Use your common sense on your date, don't drink excessively, stay in control and ensure that you don't do anything you don't feel comfortable with.
